PRESS RELEASE: Basketball Tournament 

Family Promise of Central Connecticut seeking sponsors and players for April 9 and 10 Basketball Tournament 

New Britain, February 25, 2022: Calling all athletes and basketball fans! Lace up your sneakers, start practicing shooting some hoops, and get ready to have some fun at Family Promise of Central Connecticut’s first-ever Basketball Tournament fundraiser taking place April 9 and 10 at the Vale Sports Club in Middletown.  

“We are hosting our first-ever basketball tournament. It is going to be a fun, two-day event that will benefit Family Promise, the New Britain-based non-profit that works with area congregations to end homeless in our area,” explains Jay Williams, Vice President of the organization, and the tournament chairperson.  

According to Williams, the tournament, which will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, will consist of three divisions with eight co-ed squads in each division. Division A will be comprised of 6th to 8th grade students, Division B will be comprised of 9th to 12th graders and Division C will be comprised of adults of all ages. Two games, plus playoffs are guaranteed. Games are composed of two 20-minute halves.

2022 Sleep Out

On Friday, March 4th, High schoolers from Church of Christ, Congregational in Newington, braved the cold and took turns sleeping outside overnight in cardboard boxes to raise awareness of family homelessness in Connecticut. Participants collected over $2,300 in donations! All proceeds will benefit Family Promise of Central Connecticut. FPCCT is currently serving 15 local families at risk of homelessness and every penny raised will be used to support their mission.

General donations for the “Sleep Out” are welcome; donors supporting a particular teen should indicate the participant’s name in the PayPal note field. To donate online now, click the PayPal logo below or scan the QR code.

Press Release: Archbishop Annual Appeal Donation

Family Promise of Central Connecticut Receives $3,000 in Funding from the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal.

New Britain,  October 28th — On October 1, 2021, Family Promise of Central Connecticut received a check in the amount of $3,000 from the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal through its Vicariate Outreach Program.

The much-needed funding will help Family Promise of Central Connecticut continue its mission of providing services to families facing homelessness. Currently, Family Promise of Central Connecticut is serving 13 families with children who are at risk of loosing their housing.

“So many local families are continuing to struggle making ends meet. While there is government help available, it’s not enough and that’s where we come in. We fill in the gaps and we make sure families don’t fall through the cracks in the system,” says Marlaina “Nina” Rodriguez, the Executive Director of Family Promise of Central Connecticut. “This donation came at just the right time! We will be able to assist children and their families so they can remain stability housed.”

Since 1981, the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal has been able to assist tens of thousands of people – regardless of race, religion or color – across the Archdiocese of Hartford with health care, education, housing, emergency expenses, and in numerous other areas. It is through the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal Vicariate Outreach Program and the generosity of its donors that the Appeal is able to assist a wide array of community-based charities throughout Hartford, New Haven and Litchfield Counties.

Press Release: 2021 Walk-a-thon Fundraiser

6th Annual Family Promise of Central Connecticut “Home is Where the Heart is” walkathon is   October 9.

New Britain,  August 31 — Lace up your sneakers and get ready to step out to help end homelessness as part of Family Promise of Central Connecticut’s 6th annual walkathon taking place October 9.

The walkathon is titled, “Home is Where the Heart is” and will be held at Walnut Hill Park, located at 18 West Main Street in New Britain.  The event will benefit Family Promise of Central Connecticut, the New Britain-based nonprofit organization that helps homeless families with children regain their self-sufficiency. It will begin at 9 a.m.

Walk-a-thon participants can sign up online to collect pledges from family, friends, and coworkers. Teams can also be formed to collectively gather donations as a group or organization.

“Every family deserves a place to call home,” Family Promise of Central Connecticut Executive Director Nina Rodriguez explains. “We’re encouraging people to show how big their hearts are and participate in our fundraiser which will benefit children and their families who are facing homelessness.”

The hundreds of volunteers who comprise the non-profit organization, represent 22 congregations throughout central Connecticut. During regular, non-pandemic times these congregations provide overnight accommodations and meals to guest families in the program on a rotational basis — one week at a time.  Due to the pandemic and safety concerns, Family Promise of Central Connecticut has instead been concentrating its efforts on keeping families stably housed with their new Homelessness Prevention Program.

Family Promise of Central Connecticut is also requesting assistance for the walkathon from local companies and organizations. Sponsorship opportunities are available for organizations of any size and start at $250. For a donation of $1,000, companies will earn a Heart of Gold designation. Sponsors who donate at the Heart of Gold level will get their organization’s logo on the Family Promise website for a year, social media blasts, and the opportunity to speak at the walkathon.
